Charting the future of music production.
When Spotify acquired the leading music production marketplace, SoundBetter, they brought me in to help set the product vision.
SoundBetter boasted 180,000 recording artists in 176 countries, and was generating over $1 million per month in revenue for its musicians and producers. But setting a roadmap to merge the business with a Spotify for Artists platform that serves 1.2 million recording artists required an array of UX writing services, including messaging hierarchies, voice and style guidelines, new acquisition and payment flows, and a storytelling approach to in-product marketing.
As of this writing, work is still being rolled out under NDA, but here’s a sneak peek into the project and what’s coming!
Redesigning the on-boarding flow.
I worked with the product design team to audit the on-boarding flow and draft a new narrative structure that used segmented top-of-funnel value props and a listen, learn, guide approach to conversion (sign-up with successful creation of a paid job on platform).
Messaging and tone-of-voice guidelines.
I conducted a full site content audit, created a glossary of terms, and set clear rules for harmonizing SoundBetter’s voice with the Spotify for Artists brand.
Here are a couple excerpts to give a sense of the new guidelines and how they came to life in the writing.
Conceptual ideation.
In addition to the other deliverables and hands-on flow design, I delivered a north star vision for SoundBetter’s in-product growth features and content.
