Know the car you drive before you arrive.

Hertz engaged us to design their SMS vehicle assignment system. We helped them see its potential in a new light, not only delivering on the original user story with a dead-simple utility that customers loved, but tying the alerts to a mobile site that drove up-sell revenue and optimized rentals of vehicle overstock.

Think of it as: vehicle assignment notification meets Hotel Tonight.

I worked hands-on with strategy and account to determine, pitch, and sell-through the opportunity; then wrote the copy while directing UX and visual design.

What’s in a name.

We knew the feature needed a name and brand ID that broadcasted its utility and helped market it effectively. I drafted several selects, we went into user research and market testing, and Hertz Carfirmations™ were born.

A dead-simple experience.

When picking up from an airport location, Gold members received an email or SMS text with their car assignment before their flight arrived.

If members elected to upgrade, they landed on a simple mobile page with three upgrade options.

15 seconds of fame.

Carfirmations performed so well, they got a 00:15 TV spot voiced by Owen Wilson.

A smash hit.

In every test market, both customer response and up-sell revenue exceeded expectations.
